Flava’ is concerned
about the great amount of overweight
kids in the U.S. We have developed a
unique program to educate children to
eat more fruits and vegetables a day
while participating in dance. We offer a
wide rage of classes such as hip hop,
ballet, jazz, tap, modern, stomp, salsa,
and tumbling.
At the beginning of each class our
teachers discuss information about one
fruit or vegetable with our students.
For example we may talk about “Alex
Apple” and ask the children how many
different types of apples they think
there are? Most kids may say two, but
did you know there are 7,000
different types of apples? We then
discuss what types of vitamins apples
have, why they are good for our body,
and different ways we can eat them. At
the end of our dance class we do a
“Flava’ Reminder” and ask our students
some quiz questions to see if they
remember what was discussed about Alex
Apple.
The last class of every month students
will receive a Flava’ calendar to
document fruit and vegetable intake. We
set a goal each month for our students
to eat a certain amount of fruits and
vegetables for that month. Students are
encouraged to write down on their
calendar what fruits or vegetables they
eat. At the end of the month if they eat
the goal amount of fruit and vegetable
intake they will receive a gift from
“Dole 5 A Day” or Flava‘.
Monthly Flava' Newsletters will be given
to parents. The newsletter has healthily
facts, encouragement, and fun recipes
for the whole family. Our programs are
designed to build self esteem,
creativity, and knowledge of fruits and
vegetables. We promise you will not find
a dance class like this anywhere. We
continue to build healthy people in
America by bringing together people from
all walks of life and unifying
them through the beauty of dance and
health.
